Thomas Cuyvers, master distiller at Sterkstokers, shared his journey: 

"From the beginning, I sought, through my experience, a technique to create drinks that could replace alcoholic beverages like rum, whisky, vodka, and gin, so that no difference would be noticed. Of course, there was no substitute for the often 40% alcohol content. My breakthrough came when I started thinking from the perspective of the consumer. There's a large group of people who don't drink alcohol and aren't looking for a substitute. They still want to celebrate life and share something special with others. It's for them that I craft my drinks, so they too can experience a special moment when they have something to celebrate."

Key Considerations for 0% Alcohol Drinks:

Alcohol-free beverages fall under different legislation compared to alcoholic products. The VAT rate (6%), excise duty (almost zero), labeling requirements (list of ingredients, nutritional score), HACCP regulations, and hygiene standards are important considerations.

Shelf life is a major concern. With pasteurization, we currently achieve up to 24 months unopened. Once opened, these drinks have a limited shelf life.
